Awards

Each year, the West Side Falcons Youth Organization recognizes outstanding achievement, at ALL levels.  Nothing gives us greater pleasure than to acknowledge the special performances that we witnessed throughout the season!

Cheerleading Awards:

-Outstanding     -Miss Congeniality     -Most Dedicated     -Coaches Award     -Most Spirited

-Queen Award    -Princess Award

Football Awards:

-Mr. Falcon     -Coaches Award     -Achievement Award

Additionally, we feel that is of utmost importance that we bestow some very special awards.  The Falcon Family are deeply indebted to those who have come before us.  Most of us realize that we are all but a single link in the chain……a chain that we hope will continue forever.  While no one link is more important than another, there are some links whose shine matched the blaze of the sun.

ALL Football players are eligible for the following award:

Tony Costanzi (THE IRON MAN AWARD)

Coach Costanzi was a long time Falcon coach.  Coach Costanzi was a big man.  To his young players, he was a little intimidating on the first day of practice.  However, Coach Costanzi’s friendly personality, laughter and big smile were a comfort to all the players.  Many can still remember hearing him, at the Falcons Award banquet, many years ago, handing out the Most Dedicated Player Award, “for an OUTSTANDING effort everyday, the award goes to…..”!

ALL Cheerleaders are eligible for the following award:

Annette Edwards Award  Mrs. Edwards dedicated over twenty years to the West Side Falcon girls.  She organized the cheerleaders and was their advisor for many years.  She led the cheerleaders to many awards at competitions.

Football players who are moving up, graduating or displayed extraordinary performance during the season are eligible for the following awards:

Frank Butsko Award (A Team) Frank was a long-time Falcon player.  Frank starred at West Scranton (all Scholastic).  Played at Drake University and following his graduation coached football at Mansfield University until his untimely death in an automobile accident while on a recruiting visit.

Elmer Edwards Award (A Team) Mr. Edwards dedicated over twenty years to the West Side Falcons.  He was a past President and ‘A’ team Head Coach, who achieved many championships.

Nick Blasi Award (C Team) Nick was a ‘C’ team defensive coordinator and coached under Joe Romano and Kenny Martin.  Nick was a part of the coaching staff when the ‘C’ team won the championship in 1991. He always had a great sense of humor and was a stickler for the rules.

Tom Coleman Award (B Team)  Tom coached for over fifteen years.  He won a championship at each level, ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’.

Tom Cook Award (A Team) Tom coached over twenty years.  He coached the ‘A’ team and was the defensive coordinator.  He coached championship teams with Elmer Edwards and Mike Holley.

John Pivovarnick Award (B Team) Mr. Pivovarnick was the ‘B’ team coach for several years.  He brought fun and laughter to the game for the coaches and the players.

Jimmy Ferrario Award (B Team)  Jimmy was a young boy who was full of life and whose heart was bigger than any game.  At the age of ten, Jimmy was killed in a tragic accident.  He was a ‘B’ team player for the Falcons.

Lino dedicated over twenty years to the Falcons.  Lino was loving, honest, and emotional.  Lino was the defensive ‘guru’ under Joe Romano (Lino was much more than a coach.  He was a ‘true friend’).  He also coached many years with Kenny Martin, who became more than a friend.  Lino was Kenny’s ‘father figure’.  Lino, never forgotten and loved by all.

Dan Repshis Award (A Team) Dan was the most dedicated parent, grandparent, and volunteer ever involved with the Falcons, from cheering on the sidelines to lending a helping hand.  There wasn’t a game or practice that he couldn’t be seen standing along the fence.  His presence will always be felt.
